Types of Concrete Block Used in Building Construction

Types-of-Concrete

Concreate is identified as an adaptable and versatile material. it has been used by various architects and builders to build sturdy and long-lasting buildings. Due to its properties such as fire-resistant, aesthetic qualities, high structural capacity, sturdiness, durability, water-resistant, acoustical advantages, and more, it is used in many applications,

Concrete blocks Dubai are made in different shapes and sizes. They may be solid or hollow. The most common size of the concrete blocks remains to be 39cm x 19cm x 20 cm. it also comes in the sizes of 2 inch, 4 inches, 6 inch, 8 inches, 10 inches, and more.

Types of Concrete Blocks

As per the size, shape, dimensions, and manufacturing of the concrete blocks, we can divide them into 2 types:

Solid concrete blocks: These are heavy and are very strong. It is used for projects that need good stability. For the large masonry work like load-bearing walls, solid blocks are used.

Autoclaved concrete blocks: These are made of aggregates of bricks but in a larger and lighter version. Aerated autoclaved blocks are considered better than bricks due to their low cost and construction time.

Hollow Concrete Blocks: Hollow concrete blocks have a void area that is greater than 25% of the gross area. They are made from lightweight aggregates and are easy to install.

Hollow Concrete Blocks can further be divided into:

  1. Concrete stretcher blocks: These blocks are used to connect the corners. Stretcher blocks are often used in construction in the length parallel to the face of the wall.
  2. Concrete Corner Blocks: These are used at the end of the corners such as windows or door openings, etc.
  3. Concrete Pillar Blocks: Pillar blocks or double corner blocks are when two of the ends of the corner can be seen. It is hugely used for pillars.
  4. Jamb Concrete Blocks: Jamb blocks are used for a detailed window opening in the wall. They are also joined to the stretcher and corner blocks.
  5. Partition Concrete Block: as the name suggests, the partition concrete blocks are used to build partition walls. They are larger in height as compared to the breadth.
  6. Lintel Blocks: Lintel block or beam block can be used for creating a beam on the top of the doors and windows. These blocks have a deep groove along their length which is filled with concrete later.
  7. Frogged Brick Blocks: Frogged block has a frog on its top which helps the block to hold mortar and have a strong bond with the top block.
  8. Bullnose Concrete Block: Bull Nose Concrete Block is quite like corner blocks with the almost same functionality. Fencing company in Dubai use it to create a rounded edge at the corner.
